How we started
Sunflower Autos began with a simple yet profound realization in a small Kansas community: many of our neighbors were eligible for vital benefits but remained unenrolled. In 2015, a group of concerned residents in Lawrence wanted to change this. They noticed individuals and families struggling to access programs like KanCare and WIC, often due to lack of information or financial barriers. They brainstormed how to connect those in need with available resources. The idea was born to leverage vehicle donations to fund a local benefits-research service.
This innovative approach not only provided a sustainable funding solution but also fostered a sense of community. Residents could easily donate their old or unused vehicles, and in turn, the funds would enable outreach, education, and assistance for those who needed it most. What started as a local initiative soon blossomed into a statewide program, empowering countless Kansans to access the support they deserve. By transforming cars into hope, Sunflower Autos proudly connects vehicles and neighbors across Kansas.
Our mission
At Sunflower Autos, we believe no Kansan should miss out on essential benefits like Food Assistance, TANF, or LIEAP due to lack of information or resources. Our mission is to bridge the gap between eligible residents and available support. Through our vehicle donation program, we raise funds that allow us to offer a free benefits-research service to help individuals and families navigate complex systems. Together, we can ensure that every neighbor has the chance to access the assistance they need to thrive.

Why this city
Kansas is our heart and home, filled with vibrant communities from urban centers like Kansas City to rural areas like Hays. Areas with higher poverty rates often see a significant gap in accessing programs like WIC and TANF.
